Labor Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the workforce in our society’s economy and gives us the chance to recognize the need to take active measures to truly include all people, regardless of their gender, ethnic-racial identity, sexual identity, age, disability, or other aspects of their identity.
Intersectionality is crucial to ensuring inclusive, effective, and sustainable measures over time. We must recognize that people face multiple forms of advantages and disadvantages at the same time, which affect our access to employment and determine, in many cases, how we develop professionally.
To build truly inclusive organizations, we must address these barriers. This includes implementing policies and practices that address inequalities in work environments, providing equal training and development opportunities for the entire organization, and fostering an inclusive culture that welcomes all people.
On Labor Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to continue working for the creation of safer workplaces with equal opportunities for all people, creating a more just and inclusive labor future.
It’s worth noting that Labor Day is celebrated on different dates around the world. While in the United States and Canada, it is celebrated on the first Monday of September, in many other countries, including Mexico and much of Latin America, Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st.
